This workshop will explore exercises and techniques to expand range of motion and strength through your range of motion. The focus will be on folding forward (pike/pancake/ hip rotation) and back bending (hip & spine extension)
What will the workshop cover?
Developing flexibility as an adult requires a different approach and understanding of how to maximize the potential of your own individual anatomy. This is where a proper education of biomechanics and anatomy are of great importance!
This workshop will be a 1 day event with half of the focus on forward bending, with the second half prioritizing global extension of the body. I believe the abilities to fold forward and bend backwards are some of the most functional demands of daily life and will open up more movement capabilities elsewhere in the body.
The forward folding section will start with strategies to improve hip flexion at the joint level through hip internal and external rotation exercises. We will then move into direct exercises to improve the forward fold and pancake positions through hamstring, and adductor loaded stretches as well as strengthening for the hip flexors
The back bending section will start with expanding range of motion at the front of the hip through hip flexor and quadricep stretching. We will also target exercises to improve shoulder flexion and how to couple that will thoracic extension. We will finish by putting the pieces together with the back bridge and even get into mexican handstand preparatory development.
Who’s the workshop for?
This workshop is suitable for ALL levels, whether you are an advanced athlete looking to further develop your pancake and back bend safely, or a beginner looking to touch your toes for the first time.
If you are a coach, you will deepen your understanding of movement and acquire new and unique strategies to improve mobility for your clients and yourself
Movement nerds looking to increase the mobility capacity to allow for increased efficiency in your gymnastics skill work will benefit a lot from this workshop
